Traditional Hungarian recipes
Hungarian cuisine has a long history influenced by the location of the country. Being at the crossroads of Europe, the cuisine of neighboring nations such as Austria, Slovakia, Serbia and Romania had a great influence. One cannot forget about the Roman influence or the Ottoman Turks who occupied part of the country in the 14th century.
To a large extent, it is based on shepherding traditions because in the past the areas of the Hungarian lowland were covered with steppe vegetation. Hence, beef is used as the main ingredient in most of the dishes. However, it does not lack vegetables, among which paprika is the undisputed leader. It is used for a wide range of dishes, including stews, soups and meats. At the same time, Hungarians do not spare garlic or onions. With meats, you can also find many recipes for freshwater fish that are also on the tables.
